Let’s Talk Turkey

Posted by by Monmouth County-Monroe Twp News and Real Estate Information on 8th March 2007

One of the last things I expected to see flying in my backyard was this…

I’m still not sure if it’s a turkey or a turkey buzzard,  I do know it was large and wasn’t too fond of our photo session.

Through the next few weeks Larry had supplied me with advice, tips and ideas for creating my blog. I respect his opinions and treasure his guidance and this is why it is important that I hear from Larry!  Larry Cragun can be visited at Http://www.realestateundressed.com and when I say he has a magnificent blog I mean it!

Nothing to do with Real Estate Post…

Gift

Well it’s 9:30 on a Friday night and I miss my babies! Time goes by so fast. My son Billy made this for me when he was in grammer school. One arm ( that thing sticking out of his head is an arm) flew off in the firing oven and ruined the other classmates projects. Billy seemed to be very proud of that story, it somehow gave his artwork character and strength. Billy is 22 now and out for a typical 22 year old’s Friday night but it wasn’t that long ago when a smiling face ran up to me with this gift that meant more to me than any store bought gift I could ever imagine and probably always will. That was 15 years ago, yet it still feels like yesterday…

Merry Xmas To Our Troops!

Posted by by Monmouth County-Monroe Twp News and Real Estate Information on 23rd December 2006

Christmas Poem‘Twas the night before Christmas,
He lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house
Made of plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney
With presents to give,
And to see just who
In this home did live.

I looked all about,
A strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, no presents,
Not even a tree,
No stocking by mantle,
Just boots filled with sand,
On the wall hung pictures,
Of far distant Lands.

With medals & badges,
Awards of all kinds,
A sober thought
Came through my mind.

For this house was different,
It was dark & dreary,
I found the home of a soldier
Once i could see clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping,
Silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor
In this one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle,
The room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured
A United States Soldier.

Was this the hero of whom I’d just read?
Curled up on a pancho,
The floor for a bed?

I realized the families
That I saw this night,
Owed their lives to these soldiers
Who were willing to fight.

Soon round the World,
The children would play,
And grownups would celebrate
A bright Christmas Day.

They all enjoyed freedom
Each month of the year,
Because of the soldiers,
Like the one lying here.

I couldn’t help wonder
How many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve
In a land far from home.

The very thought
Brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees
And started to cry.

The soldier awakened
And I heard a rough voice,
“Santa, don’t cry,
This life is my choice;

I fight for freedom,
I don’t ask for more,
My life is my God,
My Country, my Corps.”

The soldier rolled over
And drifted to sleep,
I couldn’t control it,
I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours,
So silent and still
And we both shivered
From the cold night’s chill.
I didn’t want to leave
On that cold, dark, night
The Guardian of Honor
So willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over,
With a voice soft and pure,
Whispered, “Carry on Santa,
It’s Christmas Day, all is secure.”

One look at my watch,
And I knew he was right.
“Merry Christmas my friend,
And to all a good night.”

Air Force, Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy

A Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan wrote this poem.
The following is his request.

“PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. Service men & women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.

Let’s try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes,
living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.”

I think his is more then reasonable! If you agree, please pass it on!

My Day

Posted by by Monmouth County-Monroe Twp News and Real Estate Information on 23rd September 2006

Current Mood: Confused emoticon Confused

Today started out unlike any other day. It was time to confront the procrastination file head on and not quit until it was nothing more than a flimsy, empty folder covered in procrastinating doodle drawings… if I were 6 years old it would become refrigerator art but considering I’m over 40  it became trash… This tedious concentrated task ended around 3:30 and I thought I would continue on with a project I  had started roughly 8 days ago. Another new endeavor that would ultimately teach me a few lessons..

1. I am not super woman.
2. I want to be super woman.
3. Nobody believes in your ideas as much as you do.
4. Unless your paying for help don’t expect it.

Needless to say my frustration carried though the rest of the day  until out of the blue a friend from Brazil called with her endless words of wisdom   “order pizza”      :)

It’s a Dogs Life

Posted by by Monmouth County-Monroe Twp News and Real Estate Information on 18th July 2006

This is Hawkeye, he has been with us for about 15 years now and the doghouse was something I had always wanted to build…and I needed a project to keep me busy last summer. It was fun but a lot of work.. Dan loves when I am creative….(I stayed out there working and sawing and hammering too, and I’m proud to announce I now know what the little lines on a tape measure are) The picture below is of Loey and Peanut.. :) that’s a long story but I can’t give them up because they remind me of my sons when they were little.

Back in the Day

Posted by by Monmouth County-Monroe Twp News and Real Estate Information on 6th July 2006

Technology has taken real estate marketing so far in such a short time (I’m attempting not to show my age but my next statement is going to ruin any chance of that) While doing a property search online I was thinking back to the days of the MLS Book, the sacred “DO NOT REMOVE FROM THE OFFICE” book of listings. We didn’t have digital cameras, or cell phones. We didn’t have palm pilots, digital lock box keys, taking houses, or virtual tours, and believe it or not home computers were just coming out. No email! Imagine that? We were armed with a bulk rate stamper and boxes upon boxes of postcards. Back then if we were lost on the road without our trusty Hagstrom Map we would have actually stopped and asked for directions (men too). We listed and sold real estate with the technology of a bulky pager, copies from the MLS book and a long crooked key that seemed to snap off in the lockbox. I remember like yesterday when the interest rates fell just below 9% in my first year of real estate. It was a buyers market! BUY, BUY, BUY! There was something comforting about those days long gone.

Southern Magnolia

Posted by by Monmouth County-Monroe Twp News and Real Estate Information on 23rd June 2006

Six years after planting my “Dwarf Southern Magnolia Tree” I awoke to this beautifully perfect bloom. (just one) The petals are as soft as silk yet firm and sturdy and the scent is unbelievable, it’s fresh and feminine with a hint of lemon. I prayed this tree would bloom and even went as far as to light green candles under it. Maybe fertilizer would have been a better choice. Apparently these flowers only last in their pristine condition for about 2 days. I’m hoping the rain will help to make it last a while longer or possibly lead the way to more blooms!

Excuse Me, You’ve Dropped Your Cookie… Again!

Posted by by Monmouth County-Monroe Twp News and Real Estate Information on 29th May 2006

I barely got those words out of my mouth before a concerned mom toe kicked this half eaten chocolate chip cookie with the force of an NFL player. Surprisingly her young child simply watched his now airborne treat sail away without even shedding a tear. As I continued my stroll down this quiet street I started reminiscing back to my childhood days and the countless ground contaminated cookies I had dropped, rescued, “kissed up” and ate with confidence knowing I had performed the necessary safety measures involved. Back in the day this “kissing it up” ritual somehow sanitized it and made it suitable for consumption again. So what has changed? Have we become so resourceful that we can simply purchase a new cookie as if the one we dropped is less important? Is our ground that much more polluted then it was 30 years ago where as the sanitizing ritual is no longer effective? We are talking about a chocolate chip cookie….not a sugar cookie…..not an oatmeal cookie….. A Chocolate Chip Cookie….. come on cookie lovers, if you dropped it, pick it up!

UPDATE: My 17 Year Old Daughter Speaks on the Subject: “Mom, just yesterday I dropped my Hershey bar in the parking lot, kissed it up and ate it, worked like a charm!

Disclaimer: Not responsible for anyone getting sick from not properly sanitizing fallen food items :) nor am I suggesting you kiss it up and eat it…I am just saying a chocolate chip cookie is not something to be wasted…

We Would Like to Wish Everyone a Safe and Happy Memorial Weekend
Thank you To Our Troops!
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
